ADAPT & TWC Workshop 2025: A Celebration of Inclusion and Impact

On June 23rd 2025, the Army and Navy Club in London hosted the ADAPT & TWC Workshop, a dynamic and inspiring event that brought together key representatives from ADAPT, TWC, members and friends to learn about Dr Alur’s dedicated work to achieve a future of inclusivity.

This interactive and informative audio-visual event was more than a meeting—it was a celebration of decades of transformative work in inclusive education and disability rights.

A Warm Welcome to a Visionary Gathering

The workshop was opened with grace and enthusiasm by The Lady Butterworth of Warwick, President of the TWC, followed by an introduction from Dr. Rajni Rijal, Chairman of TWC and the event’s compere. Her words set the tone for an afternoon dedicated to revisiting the rich history, impactful achievements, and future directions of ADAPT and the CII course.

Tracing the Educational Journey

Dr. Frances Moore, Former TWC Training Advisor, shared valuable insights into the development of the Pan Arab and Asia Pacific training courses—two vital programs that have contributed to building capacity in inclusive education. Her reflections underlined how far the movement has come and the importance of collaboration in its success.

Storytelling through Film: Voices that Matter

A central feature of the event was its compelling use of film to bring voices and stories to life:

  • Mithudi, a film by Aseem Sinha, kicked off the screening segment. Introduced by Dr. Mithu Alur, Founder President and Course Director at CII ADAPT, the award-winning film offered a powerful portrayal of lived experience and leadership. A spirited Q&A followed, adding a personal and emotional dimension to the narrative.
  • Malini Chib, a pioneering figure and the “raison d’être for ADAPT”, captivated the audience with a talk about her book and the accompanying film One Little Finger.” Her autobiographical work, recognised with a National Award for Role Models, embodies empowerment and resilience. Her session was both intimate and deeply moving.
  • Films by Mr. Nilesh Maniyar and Mr. Anand Adivirikar, presented respectively by Mrs. Bhavana Mukerjee (CEO, ADAPT) and followed by engaging Q&A segments, showcased the organisation’s evolution and the unyielding spirit of inclusion.

A Chronicle of Community and Vision

As the program progressed, Mr. Aseem Sinha returned to present “Community Initiatives in Inclusion: A History of CII”, offering attendees a deeper look at grassroots efforts and systemic progress. This was followed by a sneak peek into the future with “Glimpses of CII 2025”, giving the audience a preview of upcoming initiatives and strategies for deepening impact.

The session also included reflections from Dr. Rajni Rijal and Rachel Tainsh, TWC Honorary Training Advisor, on their recent visits and experiences—grounding the event in lived commitment and field engagement.

Looking Ahead: The Way Forward

The afternoon concluded with an address by Dr. Mithu Alur, who articulated a vision for the road ahead. Her closing remarks emphasised the importance of continued advocacy, education reform, and community-driven leadership in ensuring that inclusion is not just a concept, but a sustained reality.

A Programme of Purpose

Carefully curated by Dr. Alur, Dr. Rajni, and Atula Jamir, the ADAPT & TWC Workshop served not only as a forum for learning and reflection but also as a call to action. Through storytelling, film, and shared memory, it underscored the urgent need to continue fighting for dignity, equality, and opportunity for all.
