Dental Health Educational Session

The CII participants were fortunate to attend an educational session on dental health with Dr Rajni Rijal, The Women’s Council Chairman. Rajni is a dentist by profession and was able to talk to the participants around the importance of maintaining good oral health. Rajni used various props to enable her to demonstrate to the participants how to brush properly as well as how to floss. The participants were educated on the impacts of poor oral hygiene and the implications of this. This is important for all and especially for children and adults living with disability who may have rigid or loose chewing muscles or find they drool, gag or have swallowing problems. All of these things impact and complicate oral care. Very practical skills and knowledge to take back home and share in the participant’s home countries and communities!

Teaching Sessions

Rachel Tainsh spent the first week with the CII 2024 participants where she taught several group sessions, held 1:1s and got to know the course participants. In Rachel’s role as TWC’s Honorary Training Advisor, she taught on ‘Early Childhood Care and Development’ as well as ‘Child and Family Centered Approach’. The focus of the training was on infant mental health and the first 1000 days of a child’s life (from pregnancy to the age of two years old). Rachel discussed the importance of nurturing care and what babies and children need from the adults caring form them, looking  at the micro and macro perspectives in Early Childhood Development. Rachel shared with the participants some videos to allow for a discussion on parent child interaction.
