A Heartwarming Visit to SUVI School: A Beacon of Inclusive Education in Nepal

TWC Chairman, Dr Rajni Rijal had the immense pleasure of visiting the Surya Vinayak English Secondary School (SUVI School)—an inclusive school located on the outskirts of Kathmandu, Nepal, kindly accompanied by Mr Jeevan Oli, Secretary of Hamro Pyaro Nepal Organisation, and past CDO of the Gorkha District. SUVI school was founded through a partnership between SAMA Nepal and the Audrey Jacob Foundation, and it stands as a shining example of inclusive education in action.
It was deeply fulfilling to see some of our Community-Inclusive Initiatives (CII) alumni now working as dedicated teachers—both at SUVI and in government schools across Nepal. These educators are actively raising awareness and offering vital support to children with additional needs. Watching them serve as Master Trainers, applying the knowledge and tools gained through the CII course (proudly supported by all of us at TWC), was incredibly moving.
It was lovely to meet with CII 2018 Alumni Sabitri Karki who works at the school full time, the school’s principal Bina Kaple Pandey, Suresh Kaple (SAMA Nepal) and Astrid (Audrey Jacob Foundation). Thank you for having TWC at the school and teaching us more about what you do.
Among the many inspiring individuals, Dr Rijal met Prakriti, a powerful ambassador for inclusive education. Her commitment and leadership are remarkable. In addition to her role in education, she also holds a position within the government, bridging the gap between advocacy and policy.
A particularly touching moment was observing an outdoor inclusive class, where a student with cerebral palsy received not only guidance from the teacher but also meaningful support from his peers. It was a beautiful demonstration of empathy, inclusion, and community.
SUVI School not only delivers essential and inclusive learning but also emphasizes staying connected with nature and nurturing basic life skills. Its holistic approach ensures every student is seen, supported, and empowered.
This visit reaffirmed our belief in the transformative power of inclusive education. SUVI School—and the passionate individuals who lead it—are creating a more just and compassionate future for Nepal’s children.
