International Day of Peace 2025 – Act Now for a Peaceful World

On 22nd September 2025, the Rotary Club of London hosted a special meeting in honour of the International Day of Peace, under this year’s theme: “Act Now for a Peaceful World.” The event brought together distinguished speakers, leaders, and changemakers at the elegant Chesterfield Hotel, London.

The meeting was chaired by Mrs. Anahita Harris, President of the Rotary Club of London, and was thoughtfully organised by Past President of Rotary and TWC member, Vasi Daniel.

Inspiring Voices for Peace

The panel of speakers featured prominent diplomats and leaders who shared their unique perspectives on peace:

  • H.E. Osman Topčagić, Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the UK
  • H.E. Dr. Iruthisham Adam, High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives
  • Mr. Rashad Vahabzade, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Azerbaijan in London
  • Dr. Rajni Rijal, Chairman of TWC

Dr. Rajni Rijal’s Reflections

Dr. Rajni Rijal, Chairman of TWC, was honoured to be invited to address the gathering. She spoke about peace from the lens of health, disability, and inclusion—a perspective often overlooked but central to building sustainable peace.

Drawing from her personal journey “From Mosquitoes to Molars”—spanning malaria research, dentistry, and her leadership at TWC—Dr. Rijal highlighted how peace is deeply tied to justice, equality, dignity, and wellbeing. She emphasised that inclusion for people living with disabilities is a powerful path toward fostering global peace.

In her words, “Peace is not a distant goal but a daily act of commitment by all of us.”

A Multidisciplinary Symphony

Dr. Rijal praised the contributions of her fellow speakers, recognising that peace is a multidisciplinary effort—diplomacy, health, inclusion, culture, and community all playing interconnected roles.

The afternoon was also graced by the serene performance of harpist Lila, whose music beautifully reminded everyone that even art and culture play a vital role in nurturing peace.

A Call to LIP – Live in Peace

As the event drew to a close, Dr. Rijal offered a simple yet powerful phrase to carry forward: LIP – “Live in Peace.”

The TWC extends heartfelt thanks to the Rotary Club of London for hosting such a meaningful event, and to all the speakers and participants who continue to remind us that peace is possible—when we act together.
