At the end of April, The Women’s Council (TWC) gathered for a truly memorable day out at the world-renowned RHS Garden Wisley. Blessed with lovely spring weather, our members and guests were treated to a tour led by the ever-knowledgeable Gerda Pope, whose expertise in both the history of RHS Wisley and its botanical wonders enriched the entire experience.
We were delighted to be joined by the Patron for Indonesia and her guests, the Patron for Nepal, esteemed visitors from the Victoria League, and many of our own TWC members. The camaraderie and shared curiosity made for a warm and engaging group dynamic throughout the day.
The gardens were bursting with seasonal colour. Highlights included the radiant rhododendrons in full bloom, the impressive Glasshouse brimming with exotic species, and the striking rows of tulips in the ongoing tulip trial project. Of particular interest were the whimsical Toona plants, whose graceful shape and pink-hued leaves gave the charming illusion of elegant flamingos dancing among the greenery.
Of course, many couldn’t resist capturing the beauty around us—countless stunning photos were taken, with the vibrant flora providing the perfect backdrop.
The group enjoyed a lovely lunch at Hilltop, providing a relaxing interlude amidst the day’s discoveries. It was a time to reflect, connect, and enjoy the surroundings over delicious food.
A heartfelt thank you to Gerda Pope for her enlightening and engaging tour. Her passion and knowledge truly brought the gardens to life and made the day one to remember.
