We gathered in the historic surroundings of the Army & Navy Club for a very special Burns Lunch, held in loving memory of Lena Freeman.

As tradition calls, the haggis was welcomed by the stirring sound of bagpipes, setting the tone for an afternoon that balanced celebration with reflection — honouring both Scotland’s beloved bard and a woman whose legacy continues to shape our work.

A highlight was a special recording of a Robert Burns poem, beautifully read by our honorary training advisor, Rachel Tainsh. Her reading reminded us of the enduring power of words — much like Lena’s own influence.

The occasion also marked the official launch of the Lena Freeman Grant Programme, made possible through her generous bequest to TWC. Reflecting Lena’s belief in opportunity and growth, the grants will support past CII participants as they continue their development.

As we pursue our guiding ambition — Train One, Train One Hundred — the Lena Freeman Grant Programme stands as a powerful extension of that vision.
